B.A History, Boston College
Zach was born and raised in Greater Boston and is a 2012 graduate of Boston College, where he earned a B.A. in History with an Economics minor. He initially worked as a financial, operational, and regulatory risk consultant in the financial services sector at KPMG LLP in New York City before moving home and transitioning into a multifamily underwriting role on CBRE’s capital markets platform. He has most recently worked as a fully certified MAP Underwriter at Berkadia Commercial Mortgage LLC, specializing in FHA mortgage insurance for new construction, sub rehab, and refinance transactions.
He has experience participating in the underwriting of approximately $1.5 billion in transactions involving FHA mortgage insurance through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for affordable and market-rate apartment/mixed-use communities located throughout the United States. He has worked extensively with HUD and Berkadia’s owner-developer clients on deal aspects related to valuation, market demand, property management and operations, capital needs, architectural (including Green building design), cost estimates, mortgage credit, zoning, title/survey, and other legal issues.
The seed for Zach’s personal passion for real estate development was planted while living along the waterfront in Long Island City during his time at KPMG. The neighborhood transitioned away from its industrial characterization, an area with abandoned warehouses and petty crime, into one of the most desirable mixed-use neighborhoods in New York. Zach looks forward to marrying his personal and career interests through the MSRED program while working to address issues that affect the social wellbeing of communities around the world.
