B.Arch., Architecture, Universidad de Los Andes
Raquel Ganitsky joins MIT’s MSRED as a part of the Young Leaders Program and as a fellow in the Sustainable Real Estate Development Action Program. She holds a Bachelor in Architecture from Universidad de Los Andes. Having grown up in Colombia, Raquel discovered her interest in sustainable development working on housing and urban transformation proposals in underrepresented neighborhoods in Bogotá and in poverty-stricken towns in her country.
Raquel began her professional career working at Konrad Brunner Architects, where she was involved in institutional, commerce, mixed-use, urban, and residential projects. Later, she concentrated her training on sustainable development and innovative approaches to building while working at NUUP Design and at Simón Vélez Architects. Raquel has completed various projects focused on environmental construction, with attention to sustainable material selection and constructive system approaches. She has worked both in the development of these projects and on research into new building techniques.
Over the last year, after deferring enrollment in the program, Raquel worked as an architectural contractor and freelance project manager in buildings in Colombia and the US.
Raquel will start the MSRED program looking to complement her training in design and construction, further developing her skills and understanding of project finance, sales, and law. She is excited to explore methods to support socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development.
In her free time, Raquel enjoys exploring national parks, following Colombian soccer, learning new recipes, and discussing politics.
