Neal joins the MIT MSRED program with seven years of experience working as an Architect. At MIT, he intends to supplement his expertise in design and construction administration with a mastery of the financial and legal forces that define real estate projects. He aspires to create a more resilient, sustainable, inclusive, affordable, human-centered built environment.
Neal began his career at Merrill, Pastor, and Colgan Architects (MPCA) designing, documenting, and overseeing the construction of custom single-family residences and mixed-use condominiums. Neal then joined Hammond, Beeby, Rupert, and Ainge Architects (HBRA) and gained valuable historic preservation and renovation experience working on the University of Virginia’s Main Library Renewal Project. Most recently, he led the design and documentation of several historic adaptive-reuse projects in and around New Orleans while working with Trapolin-Peer Architects (TPA). After hours, Neal began his own architectural practice and completed a custom residence in Colorado.
Neal grew up in Holland, Michigan and attended the University of Notre Dame where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture. Outside of work, Neal enjoys spending time with his wife, young son, and two dogs. He is a life-long learner, avid reader, inventive home chef, and strategy game enthusiast.
