Dean joins MIT after accumulating over six years of experience in institutional asset management and investments with various owner/operators in the DC Metro Area, including Ancora Partners, JBG Smith, and The Bernstein Companies. Dean has overseen portfolios in excess of $2B, led acquisitions and dispositions of over $500M of multifamily and mixed-use real estate in DC and the Midwest, and underwritten hundreds of multifamily offerings on both the equity and debt side. Most recently serving as Senior Associate of Asset Management for Ancora, Dean spearheaded the production of all financial infrastructure of the commercial and life science portfolio, including accounting integration, budgeting and reforecasting models, accrual accounting methodologies, internal and external reporting, rollup valuations, and pro forma modeling.
Before joining the Center for Real Estate, Dean served as chair of ULI Washington’s Community Service Young Leaders Group, organizing monthly service projects and connecting institute partners with local nonprofits serving the community. Dean has a passion for helping others, a passion further exacerbated by current economic conditions and the housing crisis. Coming to MIT represents an opportunity to merge his passion for real estate and social impact. In his time at the Center, Dean hopes to research innovative solutions to expand housing equity through participation lease options, decentralized housing models, and blended ownership structures.
