Seminar in Singapore opens dialogue to decarbonization technologies

Siqi Zheng has been collaborating with Professor Orlando Woods from the Urban Institute of Singapore Management University (SMU).  On July 23rd, the Urban Institute hosted a research seminar on Climate Change and Real Estate, moderated by Prof. Lin Ma from the School of Economics, SMU.

During the seminar, Siqi Zheng presented her work titled “Climate Change and Real Estate: Investing in Sustainable Upgrades and Decarbonization”.  Real estate accounts for 30%-40% of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, necessitating adjustments in the face of the climate crisis.  The research explores the role of institutional investors in promoting sustainable upgrades and examines the adoption of building decarbonization technologies.  It shows how installers and households can overcome barriers to improve energy efficiency and support global decarbonization efforts.

Siqi’s talk opened a rigorous discussion on the potential use of new decarbonization technologies and paved the way for new collaborations between scholars from MIT and SMU.
